New York in 911

*RING* 6:30-Oh no, school! How horrible. I must get to school early today because it¡¯s
the fifth dayof school and school¡¯s beginning earlier. I have two freshmen waiting for
me outside to go to school.--- Well here I am waiting for my freshman friends, me being
the dependable sophomore! My friend islate again but here we are at school.

It¡¯s 8:20 and I¡¯m in 1st period in English class. Seven students are late and the tea-
cher is very mad. *Beep* (PA) ¡°We had a situation with the bus so please excuse the
students¡¯ lateness.¡± Oh well,probably traffic.

It¡¯s 9:00 and in my 2nd period global class. Everything¡¯s normal, then¡(9:35) *Beep*
(PA) ¡°We have just heard that two planes crashed into the Twin Towers at the World Trade
Center. If you areworried about your parents we have phones in room 120 in case you need
to call. The cell phones donot work right now. But we are safe; no one in this school is
to be harmed. But for further safety noone is allowed to leave the building until further
notice. Do not worry.¡± The room is quite, for aboutone second, now everyone started tal-
king and laughing all at once. People are saying that the pilotmust be extremely stupid
as to hit the Twin Towers. Now some people, like my friend, got worriedabout their
parents. Everything is too unreal to think anything at the moment.

It¡¯s 9:40 and in my 3rd period visual basic class. I¡¯m beginning to worry about my
parents. I¡¯mwondering where Wall Street is located, is it near the towers, or far? I have
no idea. Since I¡¯m in acomputer room I¡¯ll try going on news web sites to see what hap-
pened. The web sites are all busy. Butfinally I got through the New York Times, but all I
see is that the Twin Towers fell and George W.Bush said something about this situation
being an act of terrorism. Oh my god!! We are beingterrorized??? Is this World War III???

I see my friend waiting for me outside my classroom, everyone¡¯s talking about the Towers
now. I¡¯mstarting to get very worried about America. We go to our homeroom and listen to
the radio. Everyone¡¯s worried about their parents but their cell phones don¡¯t work so
there¡¯s no contact. Myfriend starts talking about bombs and terrorists and World War III.
Now on the radio I hear about thePentagon being crashed by another plane. Then a bomb in
a car parked near the White House. But noone was harmed by the bomb because the White
House was already evacuated ¡HAHA¡they¡¯reworried about George W. Bush. There was also
a bomb in a small building in Pennsylvania. Now I¡¯mreally worried about my parents¡.
WHERE IS WALL STREET???????

My friend¡¯s dad works in the Empire State building and she¡¯s really worried. She¡¯s
crying now. Sincethe cell phones don¡¯t work we must go to the guidance office for the
phone. We enter the room andall I can see are people crying. Teachers are worried about
their children and husbands and wives. The students are crying about their parents, sib-
lings, aunts, and uncles. Watching these people crymakes me want to cry too, but I know
that my friends need me right now and I will be strong forthem.

It¡¯s 10:58 and I¡¯m in the lunchroom. I¡¯m worried but my other friend seems happy so
she lifted myspirits. If I stay optimistic, others well benefit from it too.

It¡¯s 11:40; I¡¯m suppose to be in technical drawing but I told the teacher that I need
to call my parents and so the teacher let me off. Now I¡¯m in the hallway with my other
friend who dragged me to call herparents. All she¡¯s talking about are her parents. I
understand that she is worried, but her parents areno where near the Towers. She¡¯s
worried about her brother too, who goes to a school inPennsylvania. Pennsylvania is
really big so she doesn¡¯t have to worry. She didn¡¯t even ask about myparents, I¡¯ve
been worrying for everyone else and they always cared back but she didn¡¯t say anything.
I am strong and I don¡¯t care anymore.

My friend called her parents and got through that everyone¡¯s O.K. except her aunt is in
Manhattan

somewhere. So she started crying, I tried comforting her but she ignored my comforts. I
called my parents but no answer, I tried five times but no reply, I figured that they
were evacuated but I have noidea where they are and there is no way to locate them. My
friend said she was hungry so I went withher to the cafeteria. I saw another friend
there and stopped to ask if she was O.K. Then I turnedaround and find that my ¡°friend¡±
left me there. I couldn¡¯t find her for the day, I couldn¡¯t care less.My other friend
seemed pretty calm so I felt O.K. Then she told me about the delay this morning. Itwas
because a freshman got hit by a truck. Then I heard another person say that a girl named
Antika lost both her parents in the crash. I was
scared, I needn¡¯t say more.

I was so worried and scared out of my mind but I kept my emotions down. A friend of mine
wascrying like crazy because her dad worked in the second tower on the lower floor. I
don't blame herfor crying, I don¡¯t think I could even hold that in. I¡¯m really quite
because I¡¯m really worried about myparents. The cell phones work now. I tried calling
with my friend¡¯s cell but nobody answered. Todayis the anniversary of Camp David ¨C
presidential retreat. Then my friend popped out and she said, ¡°Hey did you notice that
today¡¯s date is 911 ?¡±

Everything was just too horrible and coincidental. Oh no, I¡¯m late for my 6th period
class, math. I was worried because she¡¯s strict. But when I got there she was really
nice about it. She offered students her cell for calls. We did some work in class
anyway. I must admit that the math actually comforted me. It¡¯s all O.K. again.

It¡¯s 1:20 and I¡¯m in my 6th period French class. The stupid teacher is really anno-
ying me. She¡¯s acting really happy and giddy like nothing happened. She¡¯s talking
really fast in French and didn¡¯t mention the occurrence at all. Her motto is not to
stress over things too much, but HELLO this may be
war!!!!!

It¡¯s 1:50 and I¡¯m in my 8th period class, gym. We had an announcement about trans-
portation. I¡¯m really happy that the trains to uptown Manhattan are open and working.
Now I can go home. But forthose who cannot go home, the school is there for them. We
got dinner and blankets from a localhospital in case any one needs to stay for the
night.

It¡¯s 2:40 and I¡¯m in my last class, chemistry. The teacher is giving us a lot of
homework andclasswork. But finally school¡¯s over.

It¡¯s 3:25 and I met my friends near the library. I tried calling home again but no
 one answered. I¡¯m
worried more and more. A friend of mine was really annoying me and angering me. She
kept saying that in case both my parents are gone I could live with her and have
parties everyday. What is wrongwith her?!?!?! Then after I called home I was wonde-
ring why no one¡¯s there and she said, ¡°because they¡¯re gone.¡± WHAT IS HER PROB-
LEM!!?!?!?!?! She needs to shut her mouth, even if she meant gone as in left the
building, she needs to think before she speaks and SHUT UP. I¡¯m outside in the bus
station with my other friends waiting for the bus. We waited for 30 minutes butno
bus. We decided to walk to another bus station. Luckily we caught the bus but it
stopped shortand we had to walk the rest of the way for about 20 minutes. We got to
the 1/9 subway station andeverything seemed all right.

I got off the station expecting fire trucks everywhere but everything was normal. I
wished with all my soul that my parents were at home waiting for me. When I opened
the door my mother and father hugged me. They were fine but worried about me. Iheard
their stories in amazement; they actually heard everything and felt the smoke and
debris. Wereceived many calls and were relieved that our friends and family are all
O.K.

Imagine in year 2081 the textbooks will be filled with the past. It will say: Only
eighty years ago a great tragedy occurred here in New York City. When no one imagined
it, it happened. The prospering World Trade Center has fallen to the ground, to what
seemed to be the beginning of World War III¡

Imagine that you¡¯re working at the towers and you get up one morning glad that you
¡¯re alive and kissyour lovely husband/wife and two adorable children and leave off
to work. When you¡¯re at yourcomputer looking at the picture of your family on your
desk, you hear a whizzing sound and look tothe window. Before you could react, the
large obstacle crashes and all goes blank. RIP
